  1. I’ll bite! (Illegal, against the law)

    (1) What’s the best debut album from any of the Native Tongues collective?
    (c) A Tribe Called Quest – Peoples’ Instinctive Travels & The Paths Of Rhythm

For some reason this has aged better than the others. Possibly because it was the least influential/least copied.

    (2) What’s the best sophomore album from any of the Native Tongues collective?
    (a) Jungle Brothers – Done By The Forces Of Nature

Call me weird but I think it’s a beautiful album.

    (3) Who had the worst ‘Jesus Christ, this album is turd! These muhfuckas are done!’ moment

    AOI: Mosaic Thump. Stinkybuttbad.

Fuck you btw, REMEDY is the fucking lick. You wont figure it out until the year 3g.

    (4) Which Native Tongue-ian(s) would you most welcome a ‘proper’ return from?
    (d) Monie Love

I don’t need any of them in my life really. I guess Tribe but all I really want is Phife to appear a few times on a Lucy Pearl album.

    (5) Who was the nicest ‘group leader’ on the mic from any of the Native Tongues collective?
    (b) Pos

Pos but only up until Buhloone. I hate him on Stakes Is High. Actually they’re all toss emcees on their 4th albums except for Dove and Phife.

    (6) Who’s solo album have you listened to most?
    (b) Phife – Ventilation

But we’re talking “more than two times” most.

    (7) Which member of the Native Tongues collective looks most like the lion from ‘Madagascar’?

    Jerobi.

    (8) Who had the shortest career of their own after working with the Native Tongues collective?
    (a) Shorty No Mas
    (c) Kid Hood

Did either of these ever do anything else?

    (9) Which of the Native Tongues groups had the illest album artwork?
    (c) A Tribe Called Quest

But if you included 12″s its probably Black Sheep. Worst ever is the second Monie album. De La albums 2,3 and 4 had dope covers.

    (10) The best overall album from any of the Native Tongues is…?

Midnight Buhloone Forces of Nature and the Paths of Rhythm

Oh, btw, get a bigger comments text box. This shit is stifling like Keefy E.

  2. (2) What’s the best sophomore album from any of the Native Tongues collective?
    (a) Jungle Brothers – Done By The Forces Of Nature

Call me weird but I think it’s a beautiful album.

Its a brilliant album, but it has some real stiff competition. LET is arguably Quest’s greatest moment, and Is Dead gets more play from me than any other De La album. I love all three to death. And though the rest of the world hates it, Non Fiction is an underground banger. Don’t fucking sleep, you cock-a-roaches.

    (8) Who had the shortest career of their own after working with the Native Tongues collective?
    (a) Shorty No Mas
    (c) Kid Hood

Did either of these ever do anything else?

Kid Hood died. I think he’s the correct answer to the question.

As for the bigger comments box, I’m tied to this shite because of the theme I’m using… any bigger will cause malfunctions in the force and the universe will explode. I’m currently trying to get a new theme sorted though, and will try to accommodate your wishes (no Paul O’Grady) if I can.

  3. GREAT quiz/poll.

    1) B, G
I love Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, but Three Feet High is unique and still so much fun. Plus, it is a seminal record, both inherently given the style and because it launched the career of De La, probably the most consistent rap group ever.

    2) C
This is the greatest hip-hop record of all time, in my opinion.

    3) A
Non-Fiction is better than people would have you believe; Love Movement was uninspired, but if you listen to it now, it is surprisingly solid; and while the AOI joints weren’t incredible, they were good, and Grind Date would indicate that De La certainly isn’t in some horrible decline.

    4) C
    There isn’t another answer.

    5) B
I think that Tip and Dres could be included, but Pos is one of the most underrated MCs ever. He has dropped gems, can write, can flow–so solid.

    6) A
This is like asking which poison you prefer, arsenic or cyanide?

    7) E
    All of the above

    8) A and C
I still love Chi Ali’s “Let The Horns Blow” and “Age Ain’t Nothin’ But a Number”

    9) C
Midnight Marauders probably wins this award all by itself.

    10) Um…
Low End, Midnight Marauders, Three Feet, De La Is Dead, Buhloone, Stakes Is High, Wolf in Sheep’s–those are all amazing. Not a fair question.

  4. #1–C. Better replay value than “3 Feet High” although De La had the first skits.
#2–C. Nobody bought any of those other records, so Tribe by default.
#3–A. Remember when they ended up opening for the Backstreet Boys that one summer when they made that house/dance record?
#4–D. Tribe will never reunite, De La is still solid, and the JB’s are a lost cause at this point.
#5–B. Pos is one of the few MC’s whose lyrics, if you read them as a written essay, are poignant, witty, complex yet obvious. He’s one of the smartest hip hoppers NOT to rub it in people’s faces. (*cough ?uestlove cough*)
#6–A. If Phife or Dres or Dana Owens had Jay Dee on the boards for a solo album, we all would’ve played the shit out of those records.
    #7–F. Frank Stallone.
#8–C. Dude dropped a wack verse on “Scenario Remix” and was ethered immediately after. At least Phife was allowed to be ignored.
#9–B. Tribe’s the easy pick but De La’s album work has been subtle, exaggerated, themed, simple and consistent since they first dropped.
#10–Midnight Marauders. “Steve Biko” and “Oh My God” are the epitomes of Native Tongue. You can’t get any closer than those 2 songs–jazzy, positive message, bangin’ drums, clever wordplay, fun, chill.
