Home Taping Is Killing Music Month Presents : Kid Capri – 52 Beats
While googling for a decent pic of Kid Capri to accompany this piece, I found the following paragraph in a Stylus Magazine article…
The hip-hop albums market might be going slightly cold, with record sales dipping year after year, but there is still heat on the streets, as evidenced by the thriving trade of mixtapes. Of course they aren’t actually “tapes” anymore €”although legendary artifacts such as a Maxwell audio tape of Kid Capri’s 52 Beats mix now fetch up to a hundred dollars €”but mass produced CDs, which can shift tens of thousands of units on the street and over the internet.
A hunnid, huh? I still don’t think I’d ever cash in mine. And fuck all these people who are releasing it on cd – that shit is not how this was meant to be listened to (he said, as he distributed it in mp3 form for easy cd-burning.)
Here is the ORIGINAL 52 beats tape with all its pops and whistles and hisses lovingly left in… maybe not up to the standard of other breaks mixes that came after – but this one set the original benchmark.
ENJOY!
Kid Capri – 52 Beats
Thats a tape i’d deffinitley like to listen to, they dont make mix tapes like they used to. When djs ruled with skills & only skills, no computers to work it for you. I would love to see him do his thing live, i heard he’s beast. For those of you in the D.C area, you can check out Kid Capri doing his thing at the Yaris dj vs dj battle going down June 21st @ club Love, and it’s FREE till 11pm. For more info on the dj battle check out http://www.yarisversusyaris.com/. Just thought i’d put you up on game since i work with Yaris
