HTIKMM: The round up…
Jun 30th

To close off Home Taping Is Killing Music Month, here’s a few odds and ends that I couldn’t be arsed making separate posts for…
J Mo Ice – Showtime Mix April 1993
Rugged rugged rugged rugged NYC shit from the early 90′s from some no-mark DJ who loves his echo-echo-echo button…
DJ Wen – Tape 9
Hoorah! I found another one! Make sure you get tapes 1-3 here and 4-8 here… this one is definitely more on the commercial side, and has tracks from Dre, Cube, Snoop, 2pac, DPG, Warren G, D’Angelo, Outkast, Salt & Pepa and more. Again, its expertly mixed, and smoothly blended, and is definitely one for the car…

Home Taping Is Killing Music Month Presents… DJ MK Triple Tape Bonus

When I was young and foolish, responsibility-free, and with more money than sense, I used to blow my entire wages on Hiphop music. If I wasn’t blowing up the phone to those nice Depth Charge people over in York, I was frittering my hard-earned away on mixtapes copped from the man DJ MK.
I used to send Mr King a check every couple of weeks for 6-10 mixtapes at a time, many of which have made it onto this site as part of HTIKMM, and on a few occasions paid him a little extra, sent him a track list, and he sent me back a custom-mixed tape. I’ve upped a couple of these, just for a laugh – you’ll see they’re not as polished as his regular stuff, but they’re bloody exclusives – because I have the only copies. I’ve also upped a Westwood show from 1995, where MK got down on the wheels, playing a lot of splendid underground Hiphop.
Oh, and I’m going to kill my sister because the box of tapes she was meant to send me over had a copy of MK’s “Bastard Breaks” – that shit is off the fucking hook…

Here’s the Westwood show…
DJ MK Live On Radio 1 with Tim Westwood (September 16th, 1995)
——————————————————————–
MK’s bio lifted from his myspace page – here…
DJ MK is one of the UKs leading Hip Hop deejays. He has been a favourite on the club scene for the last 10 years, displaying his turntable dexterity up and down the UK and throughout Europe, Australia and the United States. What sets MK apart from many of his peers is his ability to rock a crowd wherever he plays, be it Londons Ministry Of Sound, an Underground UK Hip Hop Jam, Pacha in Ibiza or an Arctic Monkeys after-party.
MK was the first UK DJ to release regular, well-packaged Hip Hop mixtapes at a time when no other DJ was doing so. These mix tapes earned him his props and a slot on the Capital rap show with Tim Westwood from 93 to 95. His mixtapes are now sold all over the world. The man has done it all from providing cuts on various tracks for the likes of Roots Manuva, Dido, Jehst, Skitz and Lewis Parker to promoting Londons premier Hip Hop jams (The Hop and Live & Direct).
MK held down one of the most popular shows on London based Hip Hop station Itch FM for four years before being headhunted by Kiss 100 FM. He joined the station in May 2004, initially hosting their Thursday night Hip Hop show alongside DJ Skully. Providing the very best in upfront Hip Hop from the U.S. & the UK, the show is essential listening. Guests have included Rev Run, Guru, Russell Simmons, Jehst, LL Cool J, Roots Manuva, Lupe Fiasco, The Beatnuts, Young Jeezy, DJ Babu, Boot Camp Clik, Maseo, Pharoahe Monch, Skinnyman, Percee P, Madlib, Task Force and Peanut Butter Wolf.
MK continues to tour the world as Roots Manuva’s DJ and is also a member of the powerhouse DJ crew Extended Players, alongside Shortee Blitz, Mr Thing and Harry Love. He judged the DMC UK & World finals between 1995-2004, helping to determine the outcome of winners such as DJs Craze, A-Trak, Plus One and Tony Vegas. He was behind the homegrown Hip Hop anthem Its All Live on Stonegroove Recordings, has released two volumes of his London Underground mix CDs to great acclaim and recently he compiled & mixed Bangers & Mash Vol. 2 (out now on Boombox). MK’s mixtape buzz led him to ink a deal with Antidote / Sanctuary Records for his first official album “Above Board”. Just released, it boasts 100% exclusive tracks from the cream of the UK Hip Hop scene. The first single lifted from the album is the DJ MK & Fallacy club banger My Show, which also finds MK weighing in with his debut production credit.

HTIKMM: DJ Clue & Puff Daddy – Bad Boy Mix
Jun 30th
Home Taping Is Killing Music Month Presents… DJ Clue & Puff Daddy – Bad Boy Mix

Not as much of a strange combination as the Stretch / Puffy mixtape from a little while back, this one features Hiphop’s favorite whipping boy DJ Clue leaving the shouting over the music with an echo-echo-echo to the man Sean Combs. Incredibly though, this tape is BETTER than Stretch’s effort – Clue’s selection is much better, and *shock*horror* he actually mixes tracks, instead of his trademark style of crashing them into each other or just pulling them off while talking on the mic to disguise the fact that his beatmatch game is sorry.
Seriously… this shit is bananas. Mobb Deep, ODB, Biggie (including the original version of ‘Come On Motherfuckers’ by Biggie and Sadat-X), Puba, Black Moon, Lost Boyz and a shitload of other banging tunes… and Puffy’s hype man act is weighed to perfection here.

HTIKMM: DJ Demp Triple Mixtape Special
Jun 30th
Home Taping Is Killing Music Month Presents… DJ Demp Triple Mixtape Special

Bio cribbed from TJ’s DJs and then tweaked…
When it comes to DJing, the owner of the venue generally holds all of the cards. The owner earns the door money, bar tabs, and dictates what he is willing to pay the DJ whether there are two people or a packed house. But, if a DJ becomes self-aware of the power he has to generate a following combined with the guts to blaze trails and the ability to stay focused on his goals, then all of the problems of being pimped would be fixed in the mix.
DJ Demp has met the challenge of making DJing a business head on and has always had the capacity for thinking outside of the box. As most high school kids were focused on proms, sex, and other adolescent issues, Demp created Demp Productions and began to start spinning house parties in Tallahassee while attending school. Eventually, he began to make mix CDs which got into the hands of the college crowds Florida A&M and Florida State has made Tallahassee famous for. Fraternities and sororities loved his sound enough to recruit him for their parties allowing for a new fan base.
In 1994, he began to rent out the clubs himself rather than allow himself to be hired, thereby allowing him to walk out with an envelope, just like the owner.” His next chance to grow came in 1996 when he toured with the Ghost Town DJs to support the mega smash “My Boo.” Meanwhile, Demp achieved notoriety as the one who rocked the after parties in each location from New York to Hawaii.
After returning home from his first tour of duty, he earned a spot on Wednesday nights at the famous Moon nightclub. In addition, he also learned that he was to appear on BET’s “Planet Groove.” He was not stationary long as the infamous Uncle Luke came knocking on his door and recruited Demp’s services for a new tour. When he returned, he decided to take his career to another level.
While on the road, Demp constantly met new people and maintained contacts because he understands the true power of networking and promotion. In 1998, he decided to have a week long celebration in Tallahassee to mark his birthday of January 9 and invite his new connections. Thus, Demp Week was born. The Nappy Roots, Twista, movie maven Lisa Raye, George Clinton, Trick Daddy, Juvenile, Field Mob, Jae Millz, Red Rat, So So Def, the And 1 Mixtape ballers, and the FUBU owners have all come to T-town for the annual celebration of a week full of events including a charity all-star basketball game, a golfing tournament, and star studded parties held each evening. He also could be heard on the community station WVHT 105.7 to follow up his radio beginnings on Florida State’s WVFS 89.7.
Next stop was a multi-city tour spinning for Lil Flip. Together, they even made a pit stop performance on BET’s “106 & Park” for a live performance of the number one video slot “Game Over.” Plus, he has been on the road with Trick Daddy and even makes an appearance in the hood classic DVD, “Trick Daddy: Uncut.” However, artists are not the only people he DJs for, he also spins hot fire for NFL star parties such as the Washington Redskins’ Clinton Portis and Oakland Raiders’ Randy Moss. This paved the way for yet another Demp appearance on BET during their show “Madd Sports” as well as the promos to announce the episode.
From the start, Demp never wanted to just settle for being a DJ. Every move made was a calculated step to bring him closer to embrace a larger reputation and bigger bank. “I’m just good at what I do,” explains Demp. “I can always do more than what I’m doing, though. Like Jay-Z said, I treat everything like my first project. Somebody is always there, ready to take your position.” With this winning attitude, Demp has been nominated for as the DJ of the Year by the Radio One Dirty Awards joining the ranks of DJs Irie, Drama, Boom Bip, Michael Watts, and The Scientist. In addition, he has won the prestigious TJ’s DJ’s Tastemakers Award thereby proving he has perfected the mix.
Demp is currently touring across the United States and worldwide supporting David Banner and Juvenile, while at the same time holding down his slot as Crunk!!! Energy Drink ambassador.

So anyway…
Here’s a couple of old Demp mixtapes from the mid 90′s with a newer cd from 2001…
The first tape is similar to a few others that have went up this month – a mixture of Hiphop and R’n'B jams from that time period… D’Angelo, Brandy, Total etc mixed with Biggie, Wu-Tang, Dogg Pound etc, plus with the extra ‘underground twist ‘bonus of Goodie Mob and Camp Lo cuts sprinkled on it too.
DJ Demp – Tape One
The second tape will be very much an acquired taste, but will be more familiar to those of us in the south – a full tape of 130+bpm Miami bass jams that are a staple of many’s a clubnight in T-Town and beyond…
DJ Demp – Tape Two
The cd moved some major units around Tallahassee when it dropped and features cuts from Ghost, Redman & Method Man, Black Rob, Juve, Mystikal, Trick Daddy and a whole lot more. Again, its very much a club-focused cd, but the mixing is onpoint throughout and it definitely knocks in the car…

Home Taping Is Killing Music Month Presents… Dr.Dre – Old Skool Megamix (1986)

The title says is all really. Late World Class Wreckin’ Cru / Early NWA period Dr.Dre throws down for an hour TWENTY ONE FUCKING YEARS AGO with classic electro and funk, mixed with golden mid-80′s Hiphop. Great stuff. And not really much else you can say except that you need to check this one.
By the way, expect a load of odds and ends today as I clear up everything I either didn’t get a chance to up until now, or haven’t ripped yet. The month isn’t over until midnight!!

HTIKMM: Craig G – Fuc Tape 9

Home Taping Is Killing Music Month Presents… Craig G – Fuc Tape 9

Fuck Tapes are an excellent source of fun and frolics if executed correctly. Craig’s ninth attempt is probably the same as the other eight, and carries an important lesson that all DJs should learn when trying to compile something like this…
SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Fellas don’t want to be hitting shit from behind and having to listen to wack DJs warble on about how ill they are and advertising all their other shitty brands of tapes.
Ladies don’t want to be playing the skin flute and having to try to blot out shout outs from some nomark to his boys over their favorite Jodeci cut.
To this end, Craig carries this tape off nicely – a strong selection of slow jams with minimal wittering from him. He does need to clean his needles a little though (nh). Obviously its still not as good as THIS TAPE RIGHT HERE, but its still a nice little weapon to have in any potential Casanova’s armory.

HTIKMM: Craig G – Sneakin’ Up (Part 1)
Jun 29th
Home Taping Is Killing Music Month Presents… Craig G – Sneakin’ Up (Part 1)

Back in the mid-90′s Craig G was one of the most prolific DJs in NYC. However Craig and other DJs of his ilk (lets just call them ’2nd tier’) did all that grindin’ for nowt… y’see I couldn’t tell you what a Craig G tape sounds like, what a DJ S&S tape sounds like, what a DJ Camilo tape sounds like… they’re the Infamous Mobb to Primo’s Mobb Deep, the Sunz Of Man to Ron G’s Wu-Tang Clan… you know what I’m saying…
Anyway, enough of my mild dissing – here’s a Craig G tape full of shit from Biggie, Das EFX, Gravediggaz, Kane, OC, Nice & Smooth, Snoop, Pete Rock & CL, and a load of other stuff. Its a nice little mix of mid-90′s stuff that’s pretty well put together… decent for a listen or two for sure, but like every other tape I’ve heard from this cat, its distinctly unmemorable.
Craig G – Sneakin’ Up (Part 1)

Moonsatellite – Facechanger Mixtape
Jun 29th

Those of you who were kind enough to buy my last mix cd (the one hosted by Count Bass D – buy one now if you haven’t already fools) may well have liked the last track, ‘Marvin’, by my man Moon. A fellow contributor to the Count’s message board, his jerky reworking of Mr Gaye’s ‘Come Live With Me Angel’ was a fine addition to what I’m sure you’ll all agree was one of the best mix cds you’ve ever heard.
*ahem*
Anyway, Moon has now decided to give away some of his more ‘eclectic’ work for free. His short “Facechanger” mixtape is now available for download at the following link…

Here’s the promo video to give you a little taste of what’s to come…
You might want to take some serious drugs before you listen, just to help you make sense of this craziness…
